In 1169, the Normans invaded Ireland and captured Dublin. They constructed the first stone walls around the city and introduced feudalism. Dublin became an important center of commerce and administration, and many of its significant landmarks, including Christ Church Cathedral and St. Patrick's Cathedral, were built during this period. In the 16th century, King Henry VIII declared himself the head of the Church of England, and Protestantism was enforced in Ireland. The 19th and 20th centuries saw several significant events, such as the 1798 Rebellion, the Great Famine (1845-1852), the Easter Rising (1916), and the War of Independence (1919-1921). These events ultimately led to the creation of the Irish Free State in 1922. In the 20th and 21st centuries, Dublin experienced periods of economic growth, social change, and cultural development. The city underwent urban renewal projects, including the construction of new buildings and infrastructure. Dublin emerged as a vibrant cosmopolitan capital, attracting international businesses, artists, and tourists.
