Tule Springs Fossil Bend Park
We will start out this tour at the famous Tule Springs Fossil Bed National Monument. It was here in 1933, Quarry workers found remains of a Mammoth they later named “Tule the Baby Mammoth.

Since then many paleontological discoveries have been made at this site including the discoveries of camelops, a now extinct cousin of the better known Camel and the prehistoric American Lion, ranging from 7,000 to 250,000 years old.

Tule Springs was established in 2014, making it a newer national monument with a few temporary trails making it worth a visit. Just make sure to bring plenty of water and watch out for Rattlesnakes!

Ice Age Fossils State Park
Here is Ice Age Fossils State Park, one of Nevada’s newest State Parks. The park’s modern visitor center will be set to open in the Winter of 2022, along with a set of trails directing visitors to archaeological dig sites and prehistoric fossil beds.

In the meantime, enjoy free admission to Fossils State Park while the visitor center is being built. While hiking keep your eyes out for bone and tusk fragments that are abundant in this park, just make sure to take only pictures. Also feel free to bring your furry friends, just make sure they are leashed!

Las Vegas Farm/ Gilcrease Orchard
On your left you will see Gilcrease Orchard. Gilcrease Orchard is a non-orchard started in 1920 Elda and Leonard Gilcrease, over the years the orchard has seen ups and downs but has always stayed dedicated to their mission to help foster appreciation for the Earth’s bounty.

Today, you can visit Gilcrease and enjoy all the bountiful fruit and vegetables the orchard has to offer as well as farm-fresh eggs and homemade donuts. A great time to visit is late-summer when their stunning sunflowers are in bloom.

Just along the way on your right is The Las Vegas Farm. Started in 1961, The Las Vegas Farm offers free-range eggs from various fowl including chickens,peacocks and quail as well fresh honey collected right on the property.

In 2012, The Las Vegas Farm partnered with Barn Buddies, a non-profit dedicated to the rescue of abused, neglected or abandoned farm animals. The farm does allow you to feed some of the animals, making this a great place to enjoy yourself with children.

If you take a right on Racel St you’ll find yourself at Gilcrease Nature Sanctuary. Gilcrease Nature Sanctuary was founded in 1979 with the mission to provide a safe-haven for animals of all types. Gilcrease is home to over 500 exoctic birds and domestic animals whose owners can no longer care for them.

On your right, we will pass Floyd Lamb Park. Floyd Lamb Park is 680 acres of lush vegetation and active wildlife. The park also has amazing views of the Sheep and Spring Mountain Ranges, perfect for a scenic picnic.

Here you will find plenty of outdoor amenities like jogging trails, mountain bike trails, volleyball courts, and even some fishing ponds.
