Well, I'm excited!
I hope your are too.
I'll meet you at our first stop. Just follow the route and enjoy the tour.
Our first stop brings us to a true landmark, not just of Scranton, but of television history itself.
I brought you here, all the way to the corner of this parking lot, so you can have a good view of that big brown brick building in front of you, or - north east to be exact.
The one with the tall tower on it's right corner. You can stop here for a moment while I tell you some stories.
Well?,
Do you recognize it?
You’re looking at the Pennsylvania Paper & Supply Company, the first building in every opening credit of the show!
John Krasinski and pals filmed those drive-bys right about here, researching Scranton.
Now, while it might not be a sprawling corporate campus, this building’s familiar façade is arguably one of the most recognized exteriors in the world thanks to a little show called "The Office".
This is Ground Zero for paper salesmanship.
Remember "The Merger" in season 3?
When Jan drops the Stamford bomb?
Michael says: "This is our branch!", Right here.
This isn't a film set, mind you; it's a genuine, working Scranton business.
Founded in 1947 by the Fink family, this company has been supplying paper and janitorial products to the region for decades.
The famous "Pennsylvania Paper & Supply Company" sign, which you can clearly see, was actually added to the building in 1968.
It’s been a part of the city's commercial fabric for longer than most of us have been alive.
When "The Office" producers were scouting locations for their opening credits, they wanted something authentically Scranton, and this unassuming building, with its classic industrial charm, perfectly fit the bill.
It lent an air of everyday realism to the fictional Dunder Mifflin, making it feel like just another business in a real American city.
It’s a testament to the show's genius that they didn’t need a fancy, custom-built set to create an instantly recognizable and beloved image. Just a real Scranton company, doing its real Scranton thing, day in and day out.
For many fans, seeing this building is like coming home, a tangible connection to the world of Michael, Dwight, Jim, Pam, and the rest of the gang.
Oh, and, look up.
See that Dunder Mifflin sign they added as a nod? Pure genius.
Ok, you can snap that selfie now.
When you're done, let's exit the parking lot, take a left on Penn Ave and follow the route to our next place.
You are looking at a true, Scranton legend - the one and only, Glider Diner!
Now, if you want the real Electric City experience, this is it.
This classic "Silk City" diner has been a staple here since 1950, well, actually dating back to the year 1945.
It’s got that iconic neon sign and that retro chrome look that makes you feel like you’ve stepped back into the nifty fifties.
Locals know it for the "open-faced" sandwiches, their "Glider Burgers" and their famous gravy fries—seriously, they are life-changing!
But, we know why you’re really here. And yes, there is a Dunder Mifflin connection!
Let’s rewind to one of the most important moments in "The Office" history: Season 4, Episodes 18 and 19, "Goodbye, Toby".
It’s a day of mixed emotions - Michael is over the moon that Toby is finally leaving for Costa Rica, but he’s also just met his soulmate, Holly Flax.
In their very first scene together in the breakroom, Michael is trying to be the ultimate Scranton ambassador. He’s trying to impress the new H-R rep, and what does he do?
He gives her the best local tip he has!
He tells Holly, "You should go to the Glider Diner. They have the best breakfast."
Now, while most of the show was filmed out in sunny California, the writers loved sprinkling in real-life Scranton landmarks to give it that authentic Pennsylvania soul.
Michael Scott knew that if you want to win someone’s heart, you start with a recommendation for a legendary Scranton breakfast.
So, if you’re feeling a little hungry, why not pull over and continue the tour when you ready?
Just grab a booth, channel your inner Holly Flax, and see if the breakfast really is the best in town.
But try not to talk about HR while you’re eating - Michael wouldn't like that!
Alright, if you're still with me then keep those seatbelts buckled, we’ve got plenty more Scranton history and Dunder Mifflin memories just around the bend!
Let's follow the route until we get to a beautiful mural that I want to show you.
