Hermosa Beach Pier
You need to be heading south here on Hermosa Avenue but let me tell you about the Hermosa Beach Pier as you drive. The original pier was made completely out of wood and was only about 500 feet long. That was back in 1904. In 1913 Mother Nature decided to partly wash the wooden bridge away. Damaged piers over the ocean are never a great idea, so the original was torn down. The one that is here now is a fancy concrete pier paved with asphalt shingles. Oh, and this new one is 1,000 feet long. But wait, there’s more. Eventually a bait stand was built at the end of the pier, and then an auditorium, pavilions and public restrooms.

Hermosa Beach Pier might be one of the most popular beach piers in the area. It’s a fantastic place to take a stroll, enjoy the ocean breeze, and experience a breathtaking sunset.

Redondo Beach Marina It’s the final one on our list and it starts at the corner of Portofino Way and North Harbor Drive. We will be turning left there so we can get to the Redondo Beach Pier, but first, a few things about the Redondo Beach Marina. I’m going to list some activities available at the Redondo Beach Marina. Raise your hand if any of these interest you. But be careful to keep your other hand on the wheel.

Sport fishing, boat rides, whale watching, twilight fishing, kayak and pedal boat rentals, sailing, spectacular sunsets, exciting entertainment, and delectable dinners. Both hands back on the wheel now. If any of those interest you, the Redondo Beach Marina is the place to be.

Ready to head to the Redondo Beach Pier? Off of Catalina Avenue, please turn right on Coral Way.

Redondo Beach Pier
In case that huge “The Pier” sign isn’t a dead giveaway - you are now heading toward Redondo Beach Pier. Feel free to drive around and see what there is. Just come back out the way you came in and turn right on South Catalina Avenue when you are done.

So, what can I tell you about the Redondo Beach Pier? Well, it is the largest “endless” pier on the California Coast. “Endless” meaning you can just walk around and around in circles. It isn’t an out-and-back pier.

Restaurants on the Pier? Ok, Tony’s has been here since 1952 and El Torito opened its doors in 1972. You can also find seafood, fast food, a crab house, a bakery, bars with amazing happy hours and much, much more. You are gonna need to come back and check it out.

There are plenty of souvenir shops as well, plus multiple live performance venues. Check out the Redondo Beach pier calendar by going to www.redondopier.com/events. You will find many free events such as a summer concert series, a classic car show, monthly yoga meet-ups and one of Southern California’s longest-running kite festivals! Like I said before, you are gonna need to come back and check it out.

I’ll meet back up with you when you head south on Catalina Avenue.

Veterans Park
You are currently driving past Veterans park, on your right. It’s six acres of grass, trees, and playground equipment. The Veterans Park Community Center is there too - in a building that was constructed in 1930 and is currently registered with the National Register of Historic Places.

Looking for a great Farmer’s Market? The Redondo Beach Certified Farmers Market is open every Thursday here from 8am until 1pm.

Let’s keep driving south so I can show you the gorgeous area of the Hollywood Riviera. Follow your navigation to Knob Hill and then turn right. Your next left from there will take you down Esplanade, which is arguably one of the most beautiful drives along the California Coast.

How about we finish up this tour on the beach? I knew you’d like that. Please turn right on Paseo De La Playa and pick a parking lot. There’s one on your right just after you turn. You may as well park and get out and enjoy some sunshine.

And, that’s that. I hope you enjoyed seeing some sites here as much as I enjoyed showing you around.
