Hockey Hall of Fame: Canada’s Sacred Hockey Ground
Get ready to turn right, but first, welcome to Hockey Hall of Fame on your right, one of the most legendary sports destinations in Canada — and the perfect place to kick off our Toronto adventure.

For Canadians, hockey isn’t just a sport. It’s practically part of the national identity. Winters, frozen ponds, neighborhood rinks, early morning practices — generations have grown up with hockey woven into everyday life.

Inside the Hall of Fame, you’ll find the sport’s greatest treasures: historic jerseys, iconic sticks, championship rings, and exhibits dedicated to hockey legends from across the decades. But the real star attraction is the Stanley Cup itself — the oldest trophy in North American professional sports and one of the most famous trophies in the world.

The building surrounding it has its own fascinating history too. Before becoming hockey’s cathedral, this grand structure served as a bank headquarters in the early 1900s, and you can still feel that old-world financial grandeur in the architecture around you.

Dominion Public Building: A Slice of Old Toronto
On your left is the historic Dominion Public Building, one of the last reminders of Toronto’s early 20th-century government architecture along the waterfront.

Completed in 1935, the building was designed in the Art Deco style — known for its clean lines, symmetry, and decorative stonework that symbolized confidence, progress, and modernity during that era. At the time, this was one of the most prominent federal government buildings in the city.

Look closely and you’ll notice carved details and relief sculptures worked directly into the exterior, something common in major public buildings of the period but much rarer in modern construction today.

What’s especially interesting is the contrast surrounding it. When this building opened, the nearby skyline was relatively low and the waterfront was heavily industrial. Today, it sits surrounded by glass towers, stadiums, condos, and entertainment venues — almost like a surviving time capsule from an entirely different Toronto.
