Molly Brown House Museum
Get ready to turn right, but first on your left is one of Denver’s most famous historic homes — the Molly Brown House Museum, once the residence of the city’s most spirited and determined heroine, Margaret “Molly” Brown.

If the name sounds familiar, that’s because Molly Brown earned worldwide fame as the “Unsinkable Molly Brown”, one of the survivors of the Titanic disaster in 1912. But her real story is even more inspiring than the legend. Born to poor Irish immigrants, she rose from humble beginnings to become a world traveler, philanthropist, political activist, and champion for women’s and workers’ rights.

She and her husband, J.J. Brown, struck it rich in Colorado’s mining boom — but instead of retreating into luxury, Molly devoted herself to helping others. When the Titanic went down, she famously took charge in a lifeboat, comforting survivors and demanding the crew return to search for more. That courage turned her into a symbol of strength and resilience — a true Colorado original.

This Victorian mansion, built in the 1880s, reflects her larger-than-life personality — elegant yet full of energy and warmth. Today, it’s beautifully preserved as a museum, offering a glimpse into the life of one of Denver’s most unforgettable women.

So as we get rolling on our Denver tour, take one last look at this grand old home — a tribute to a woman who proved that courage, kindness, and determination can never sink.

The Colorado State Capitol
Up ahead after the cross light on your right is one of Denver’s most iconic landmarks — the Colorado State Capitol Building, crowned by that brilliant 24-karat gold dome that gleams in the mountain sun. Built between 1886 and 1901, it was designed to celebrate Colorado’s entry into the Union and the prosperity that came from the gold rush. The dome’s gold leaf isn’t just for show — it’s a proud nod to the metal that built the state.

The Capitol sits exactly one mile above sea level, and you can even find a small brass marker on the steps that reads “One Mile High.” It’s one of Denver’s favorite photo spots — where locals and visitors alike stand to say they’ve been “a mile high.”

Architect Elijah Myers, who also designed other U.S. capitol buildings, filled this one with local materials — white granite from Gunnison, rose onyx from Beulah, and Colorado marble that gives the interior its soft glow. Inside, you’ll find grand staircases, murals of the state’s history, and a spectacular view from beneath that dome.
