Mitzpe Ramon
To begin our road trip, we are going to make our way through the town of Mitzpe Ramon.
A small town perched on the edge of Ramon Crater (Makhtesh Ramon) in Israel’s Negev Desert.

Known for its stunning views and tranquil desert vibe, Mitzpe Ramon offers one of the best vantage points over the crater, a unique geological formation that’s the largest erosion crater in the world.

The town itself has become a hub for nature enthusiasts, artists, and anyone seeking a peaceful escape surrounded by incredible desert landscapes.

Due to its remote desert location and minimal light pollution, Mitzpe Ramon is one of the best places in Israel for stargazing, and is considered the stargazing capital of Israel!
Local guides offer astronomy tours with telescopes, making it an unforgettable experience under the vast desert sky.

We are about to head to the best views in all of Mitzpe Ramon, it is magnificent!
I can’t wait to show you.

Camel Mount
Welcome to Camel Mount!

Also known as Har Gamal in Hebrew, it is a famous lookout point near Mitzpe Ramon, named for its camel-like shape that rises gently over the landscape.

Located right along the rim of Ramon Crater, this spot offers some of the best panoramic views of the crater’s vast, colorful landscape and the Negev Desert beyond.
It’s a favorite spot for photographers and nature lovers, especially at sunrise and sunset when the desert colors come alive in beautiful, warm hues.

The short walk to Camel Mount is easy and accessible, making it a great stop for visitors of all ages. There are seating areas and ledges where you can sit, relax, and enjoy the peaceful desert views, often accompanied by sightings of wild ibex roaming the area.

For those staying overnight in Mitzpe Ramon, Camel Mount is also a fantastic spot for stargazing, as the desert’s clear, dark skies reveal a brilliant nightscape.

Desert guides often recount stories about ancient travelers who navigated by the stars, using constellations to cross the vast Negev Desert. Stargazing events on Har Gamal frequently include these tales, along with explanations of how the Nabateans mastered desert survival.

For many, watching the sunrise from Camel Mount feels almost spiritual. There’s a common sentiment among local guides and hikers that the first rays of sunlight spilling into the crater symbolize new beginnings and the timelessness of the desert.
Some even claim it’s a place where you can feel deeply connected to nature and history.

Take your time while exploring Camel Mount.
