Построенный в 1913 году в нео-барочном стиле, комплекс является одной из старейших термальных купален в Будапеште. Купальня была названа в честь графа Иштвана Сечени, выдающегося венгерского государственного деятеля и ключевой фигуры в развитии страны в XIX веке. Термальные воды, питающие купальню Сечени, поступают из двух источников с температурами от 74°C (165°F) до 77°C (171°F). Эти воды, богатые минералами, считаются целебными и особенно полезными при различных заболеваниях, включая проблемы с суставами и циркуляцией, респираторные заболевания и сужение сосудов.

В холодные месяцы (с конца декабря по февраль) можно наслаждаться музыкой, расслабляясь в тепле купален Сечени, пока вокруг падает снег.

Будапешт лежит на геологическом разломе, где холмы Буды сталкиваются с Великой равниной. Этот топографический "аварийный бампер" вызывает более 100 термальных источников, выпускающих около 40 000 м³ теплой минеральной воды каждый день.
