Beverly Hills Sign
One of the most iconic identifiers of being in Beverly Hills is the Beverly Hills Arch unveiled in 1912. The lily pond was built in the early 1900’s, then removed in the 1970’s. They brought it back in 2014 to honor the early lily pond. But between me and you- the locals think and say they also put the pond back because it created a barrier for people between them and the sign. between the 1970’s and 2000’s there were too many cases of tourists climbing all the way to the top of the sign to snap a photo only to fall from the top and actually end up with a broken bone or serious injury. It got so out of control the city was like- ok, we gotta do something about this… And thus we have the old lily pond restored!

Beverly Hills Garden Park
This is also is the start of the Beverly Gardens. We will now cross the street headed west, walking you through the perfectly manicured gardens. This garden was dedicated in 1911, making a 1.9 m (or 3.1 km) radius around the city. Along with gorgeous big trees, you will notice some unique art sculptures. Typically, the garden is sprinkled with large, unique pieces of art. However, at the time of the recording, many of the famous art pieces were removed or boarded up during Black Lives Matter protest and election season. Beverly Hills was a big area for the protests and the city removed some of the most expensive pieces to avoid damage. This is why you may see some display areas with no art in the middle. However the garden is still open to all for a stroll or picnic. Twice a year they do The Beverly Hills Art Show, and you may catch it while you are visiting!

You may notice there are winding streets with many fancy houses going up on either side going up the roads behind the gardens. Locals call it the Flats or the Slums of Beverly Hills- That’s right folks, you are in the “cheap” part of Beverly Hills to live. An easy $5-15 million dollars for the houses in the Flats of Beverly Hills, as opposed to the “expensive” areas that increase as you go up towards the hills. These roads (to take by car) will take you towards more of Beverly Hills, Holmby Hills (which is the home of the Playboy Mansion and the Greystone mansion), and of course the home of the Fresh Prince- Bel Air.
