Adelaide Central Market & Sir Samuel Way Building: Approaching Victoria Square
Coming up on your left is the Adelaide Central Market, one of the largest and oldest continuously operating fresh produce markets in Australia.

The market traces its beginnings all the way back to 1869, when local growers began selling fruit and vegetables here from carts. Today, it's an Adelaide institution packed with fresh produce, cheeses, meats, baked goods and foods from around the world. If you have time later, it's absolutely worth coming back — preferably hungry.

Just beyond the market, also on your left, is the impressive Sir Samuel Way Building. Surprisingly, it wasn't built as a courthouse. It opened in 1916 as Moore's Department Store, once one of Adelaide's major shopping destinations. It was later converted for use by South Australia's courts and named after Sir Samuel Way, who served as the state's Chief Justice for nearly 40 years.

And just beyond the building, we're reaching the very corner of Victoria Square. You'll only get a glimpse for now — we'll circle back shortly for a much better look at the heart of Adelaide.

Chancery Lane Murals: Art Meets Technology
As we pass Chancery Lane, look for the enormous purple-and-white murals covering the walls alongside the road.

These striking artworks were created with students from nearby St Aloysius College, with each mural representing a different theme — growth, inspiration, friendship, and STEM: science, technology, engineering and maths.

And there's more here than meets the eye. These were designed as augmented-reality murals. Using a smartphone, visitors could point their camera at the artwork and watch it come to life with digital content explaining the people and ideas behind the images.

Created in 2019, the project went on to win the City of Adelaide People's Choice Award in 2020.

Taking a UCPlaces tour is fun and easy.

Just follow the route and listen to the audio guide. Use the resume feature to continue from where you recently stopped (or closed the app). Easily skip or go back to stops.

The app is your tour-guide, it needs to know where you are located on the map to be able to trigger the points of interest. It also needs access to audio and media files to provide you with this experience.
+ What happens if there are unexpected roadblocks or navigation issues?
We have been working hard to deliver a great experience. Though you may run into unexpected obstacles (the world is constantly changing), our app has multiple features and mechanisms in place to help you overcome them, including: AI assistance, force play an audio if you can't reach the stop, skip or return to stops, automatic rerouting and more.
