자, 왼쪽에 보이는 '콥스 힐 공동묘지'에서 오늘 보스턴 드라이빙 투어를 시작해 볼게요. 무려 1659년에 만들어진, 이 도시에서 두 번째로 오래된 공동묘지랍니다. 언덕 위에 자리 잡은 이 평화로운 안식처는 역사와 혁명, 그리고 보스턴에서 가장 오래된 동네인 '노스 엔드'의 분위기를 모두 품고 있어서 첫 출발지로 아주 완벽한 곳이죠.

1775년 벙커힐 전투 당시, 영국군이 바로 이곳에서 항구 너머로 대포를 겨누기도 했어요. 하지만 그보다 훨씬 전부터 청교도 목사, 상인, 조선업자, 그리고 평범한 개척민들이 이곳에 묻혔습니다. 가장 유명한 인물로는 막강한 영향력을 가졌던 청교도 목사 인크리스 매더와 코튼 매더, 그리고 폴 리비어의 전설적인 야간 질주를 돕기 위해 올드 노스 교회에 등불을 걸었던 관리인 로버트 뉴먼이 있습니다.

올드노스교회, 육로면 하나, 수로면 둘
바로 앞에 보이는 곳이 올드 노스 교회예요. 공식 명칭은 '보스턴 시 그리스도 교회'랍니다. 1723년에 지어진 이 건물은 보스턴에서 가장 오래 보존된 교회이자, 미국 독립 혁명의 가장 상징적인 랜드마크 중 하나죠.

1775년 4월 18일 밤, 이 교회 첨탑에 등불 두 개가 켜졌어요. 영국군이 바다를 통해 렉싱턴과 콩코드로 진격하고 있다는 신호였죠. "육지면 하나, 바다면 둘"이라는 이 유명한 신호와 함께 폴 리비어의 한밤중 질주가 시작되었고, 식민지 주민들에게 영국군이 움직이고 있다는 사실을 알렸답니다.

We have been working hard to deliver a great experience. Though you may run into unexpected obstacles (the world is constantly changing), our app has multiple features and mechanisms in place to help you overcome them, including: AI assistance, force play an audio if you can't reach the stop, skip or return to stops, automatic rerouting and more.
