Cerro del Obispado Viewpoint
Welcome to Monterrey — and what a place to begin.

You’re currently at the famous Cerro del Obispado Viewpoint, one of the best panoramic spots in the entire city. This is the perfect moment to pause for about five minutes, step out of the car, stretch your legs, and take it all in.

From up here, you can really understand Monterrey’s personality. A massive modern city surrounded by dramatic mountains in every direction. The skyline, the highways, the neighborhoods climbing toward the hills, and those rugged peaks surrounding the city all help explain why Monterrey feels so unique compared to other cities in Mexico.

You’ll also spot the enormous Mexican flag nearby — one of the largest monumental flags in the country — waving high above the city like Monterrey’s own superhero cape.

Take a few photos, enjoy the view, maybe grab that “I made it to Monterrey” selfie, and when you’re ready, hop back into the car and continue the tour.

We’re just getting started, and trust us — Monterrey has plenty more surprises ahead.

El Obispado Museum
That historic building on your left that you saw on the way up here is El Obispado Museum, one of Monterrey’s oldest and most important landmarks.

The building dates back to the late 1700s and was originally constructed as a bishop’s residence — which explains the name “Obispado,” meaning “bishopric.” But over the centuries, this hilltop location became much more than a religious site. Because of its strategic position overlooking the city, it also played a role in military conflicts and regional battles throughout Mexican history.

Today, the building serves as a museum dedicated to the history of Monterrey and northern Mexico, with exhibits covering everything from colonial times and independence to industry and modern growth.

Even if you don’t go inside, the setting alone is worth appreciating. Between the historic stone building, the giant Mexican flag nearby, and the sweeping city views, this area feels like a crossroads between old Monterrey and the modern powerhouse city surrounding it today.
