Leesylvania State Park
Our first stop on this tour is Leesylvania State Park. Opened in 1989, listed on the National register of Historic Landmarks, Leesylvania has plenty of outdoor activities to offer. Enjoy boat fishing as the park offers multiple boat launches or rent a sailboat from the Northern Virginia Sailing school located within the park.

If you’d rather stay on land you can fish off their 300 foot fishing pier or enjoy their various hiking trails throughout the park including a segment of the Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail, which spans over 184 miles. So whether you’re looking for something adventurous or relaxing, you can find it at Leesylvania State Park.

Powell's Landing Park
If you enjoy nature but would prefer something a little off the beaten path, visit Powell’s Landing Park. Connected by the Neabsco Creek Boardwalk, Powell’s Landing offers year round hiking trails right near Powell’s Creek.

The paths are mainly dirt and gravel but still offer low intensity, making it suitable for all fitness levels. If you end up visiting in late fall or winter, keep your eyes peeled for the Beaver dams located on Powell’s Creek.

We will be passing some neighborhoods. On your left is Port Potomac, Port Potomac is comprised of 982 homes with a mix of both townhomes and single family homes. Coming soon is the brand new Potomac Shores VRE station which will be located just a short walk from the Potomac Shores neighborhood. VRE stands for the Virginia Railway Express, which is a commuter rail helping bring commuters from outlying towns from Northern Virginia into D.C.

Enjoy a hassle free commute into D.C with access to a commuter rail just outside your neighborhood. Until it's 2023 opening, you can still enjoy the close proximity of the VRE at its Rippon and Quantico stations.

Weems-Botts Museum
Just a couple of blocks north of us on the corner of Camerson and Duke Streets is the historic Weems-Botts Museum and Annex. Inside you can take guided tours of this beautiful home that is decorated in 18th, 19th and 20 century decor.

Why don’t we end this tour at a park - Locust Shade Park. This place offers quite a lot. There’s playgrounds, tennis courts, batting cages and even an 18-hole miniature golf course. They also offer rentable pavilions, making this a great place to have a picnic after visiting the National Museum of Marine Corps.

During the Months between November and April the 8-acre pond is stocked with Trout By Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries Urban fishing program as well as channel catfish in the spring, making this a perfect place for a day of fishing.
