In the late 1800s, this was a small Ozark town serving local farmers, merchants, and travelers crossing southern Missouri. The arrival of the railroad helped Branson grow into a busy commercial center, and many of the brick storefronts you see today date back to the early decades of the twentieth century.
Unlike the entertainment district you'll visit later, downtown Branson has held onto its small-town character. Take a look at the locally owned shops, cafés, and historic buildings lining both sides of the street. This isn't just another souvenir shop. Since opening in 1961, Dick's has become a Branson institution, filling more than 50,000 square feet with everything from old-fashioned candy and classic toys to kitchen gadgets, crafts, collectibles, and nostalgic treasures.
The name "5 & 10" is a throwback to the old variety stores where many everyday items once sold for just five or ten cents. While those prices are long gone, the spirit of those classic dime stores lives on here.
If you have time after the tour, it's worth stopping in. Even if you don't buy a thing, wandering the aisles is like stepping back into a simpler era of Americana.
