En un momento cruzaremos el río Pedernales. No dejen que su apariencia tranquila los engañe. Este río ha moldeado tanto el paisaje como la historia de la región durante miles de años. Fluyendo por más de cien millas a través del corazón de Hill Country antes de unirse al río Colorado, el Pedernales ha esculpido acantilados de piedra caliza, alimentado cipreses ancestrales y brindado una fuente de agua confiable para los nativos americanos, los primeros colonos, los rancheros y, finalmente, la familia Johnson.

El nombre "Pedernales" viene de la palabra en español para el pedernal, una referencia a las piedras duras que se encuentran en sus orillas. Bienvenidos al Rancho LBJ
A continuación, verán el legendario Rancho LBJ, una de las residencias presidenciales más importantes en la historia de Estados Unidos. Oficialmente parte del Parque Histórico Nacional Lyndon B. Johnson, esto fue mucho más que un rancho familiar: se dio a conocer en todo el mundo como la "Casa Blanca de Texas".

Lyndon Baines Johnson nació a solo unos kilómetros de aquí y pasó gran parte de su vida en la región de Texas Hill Country. Incluso después de convertirse en el presidente número 36 de los Estados Unidos, regresaba aquí cada vez que podía. Entre 1963 y 1969, este tranquilo rancho se convirtió en una Casa Blanca en pleno funcionamiento. Líderes mundiales, miembros del Congreso, jefes militares y periodistas viajaban hasta aquí para reunirse con el presidente, mientras el Air Force One aterrizaba en la pista de aterrizaje del rancho.

Johnson creía que podía pensar con más claridad lejos de Washington.
