Palacio de Bellas Artes (CDMX)
A tu izquierda se asoma el magnífico Palacio de Bellas Artes — el Palacio de Bellas Artes, y uno de los monumentos más icónicos de toda la Ciudad de México.

Tómate un momento para admirar este impresionante edificio de mármol blanco que tienes enfrente. Con su enorme cúpula naranja y dorada, sus esculturas dramáticas y esa mezcla de arquitectura Art Nouveau y Art Decó, Bellas Artes parece casi un palacio europeo caído directamente en el corazón de la Ciudad de México.

Su construcción empezó en 1904 bajo el presidente Porfirio Díaz, quien quería que la Ciudad de México rivalizara con las grandes capitales de Europa. Pero entre la Revolución Mexicana, problemas financieros e incluso el suelo blando de la ciudad que hacía que el edificio se hundiera lentamente, tardaron casi 30 años en terminarlo.

Y sí — si te fijas bien, puede que notes que el palacio está un poco más bajo que las calles de alrededor. La Ciudad de México se construyó sobre un antiguo lecho de lago, y muchos edificios históricos aquí se hunden lentamente con el tiempo.

Por dentro, Bellas Artes es considerado el recinto cultural más importante de México. Aquí se celebran conciertos, ópera, ballet, teatro y exposiciones, y sus paredes lucen murales impresionantes de artistas mexicanos legendarios como Diego Rivera, David Alfaro Siqueiros y José Clemente Orozco.

Uno de los tesoros más fascinantes del edificio es su telón de escenario — no es de tela, sino de casi un millón de piezas de cristal Tiffany de colores que forman un paisaje gigante del Valle de México con los volcanes Popocatépetl e Iztaccíhuatl.

Nada mal para un telón, ¿eh?

Esta zona ha sido durante mucho tiempo el corazón cultural de la ciudad, donde la música, la política, el arte y la historia chocan constantemente. Y mientras empezamos nuestro recorrido por la Ciudad de México, la verdad es que no hay mejor lugar para empezar.

A su izquierda tienen el Museo Banco de México, el Museo del Banco de México.

Ubicado en un hermoso edificio histórico, este museo narra la historia de la economía, la moneda y las finanzas de México. Lo que podría sonar un poco aburrido, ¿verdad? ¡Pero esperen! Hasta que se dan cuenta de que incluye monedas de oro, dinero falso, enormes imprentas antiguas y la fascinante evolución de los pesos mexicanos a través de guerras, revoluciones y cambios políticos.

El edificio en sí mismo ya vale la pena admirarlo. Construido originalmente a principios del siglo XX, combina una elegante arquitectura de inspiración europea con detalles marcadamente mexicanos, encajando perfectamente en la majestuosa atmósfera del centro histórico de la Ciudad de México.

Y en una ciudad llena de templos aztecas, iglesias coloniales e historia revolucionaria, resulta hasta refrescante recordar que el dinero también siempre ha sido parte de la historia, ¿no creen?

Taking a UCPlaces tour is fun and easy.

If you start the tour before reaching the first POI, the app will navigate you to the starting point and then begin the tour.
