Little Havana
Welcome to Little Havana, the vibrant heart of Miami’s Cuban community and one of the most colorful neighborhoods in America. Our next turn is on 13th street through the Cuban Memorial Park, so keep an eye out.

As you drive along Calle Ocho, or Southwest 8th Street, you’re traveling through a living museum of music, art, and flavor. Every block tells a story of resilience and celebration — a place where exiles turned memory into culture, and culture into pride.

Just ahead, on your right, is the Little Havana Welcome Center, your gateway to everything this neighborhood represents. Inside, you’ll find maps, local art, and exhibits that share the story of the Cuban diaspora — how thousands of families fled Castro’s regime in the 1960s and built a thriving new home here in Miami.

A few blocks farther west, at 15th Avenue, you’ll pass Domino Park, officially called Maximo Gomez Park. This small plaza might look unassuming, but it’s one of the most famous gathering spots in the city. Every day, locals meet here to play dominoes, debate politics, and catch up on neighborhood news. The rhythm of conversation, the click of domino tiles, and the aroma of Cuban coffee drifting from nearby cafés — it’s all part of the heartbeat of Calle Ocho.

Beyond the park, you’ll see hand-rolled cigar shops, fruit stands, and murals honoring heroes like José Martí and Celia Cruz. Salsa music spills from doorways, and roosters still strut across the sidewalks — reminders that life here moves to its own rhythm.

Little Havana isn’t just a neighborhood — it’s a bridge between old Cuba and new Miami, alive with history, passion, and unshakable community spirit.

Cuban Memorial Boulevard Park
As we drive through Cuban Memorial Boulevard Park, take in the peaceful, tree-lined boulevard that honors the history, struggle, and sacrifice of Miami’s Cuban community.

This green corridor runs along SW 13th Avenue, just off 8th Street, and serves as a living memorial to those who fought for freedom in Cuba and those who rebuilt their lives here in exile. Scattered among the palm trees and royal poincianas, you’ll find monuments dedicated to José Martí, the poet and patriot who inspired Cuba’s independence, as well as memorials to the soldiers of the Bay of Pigs invasion, the Brigada 2506, and others who fought against oppression.

Each statue and plaque tells part of the story — not only of loss, but of courage and hope. Many of the families who fled Cuba in the 1960s still come here to pay respects, leave flowers, or simply reflect in the shade.

This park isn’t large, but it holds deep meaning. It stands as a symbol of remembrance — a reminder that freedom, once lost, is never taken for granted, and that Miami’s Cuban heart still beats with pride and gratitude.
