North Entrance Shenandoah National Park
On the right is the North Entrance sign to Shenandoah National Park—pretty iconic, right? It marks the very start of Skyline Drive at mile 0, just outside Front Royal, Virginia. From here, the scenic road winds south for 105 miles along the crest of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The sign itself has that classic National Park look—wooden, rustic, with white lettering and the Park Service’s arrowhead emblem—mounted on a sturdy stone base. It’s not just decorative; it marks the official gateway to one of the most beautiful drives in the country. After you pass it, you’ll go through the entrance station and be right on Skyline Drive, where mile markers help you track everything from overlooks to trailheads. Even if no ranger is there, you can still drive in and pay on the way out. The sign’s a favorite photo spot for visitors starting their adventure, and for good reason—it’s the perfect symbol of what’s ahead: mountains, forests, wildlife, and endless views.
