St. John's Church: Where a Revolution Found Its Voice
As you get ready to turn left, take a look up the hill and you'll see St. John's Church, one of Richmond's most important historic landmarks.

This modest brick church played a remarkable role in American history. In March of 1775, representatives from across Virginia gathered here to discuss growing tensions with Great Britain. Among them was a fiery lawyer and politician named Patrick Henry.

It was inside this church that Henry delivered one of the most famous speeches in American history, ending with the words:

"Give me liberty, or give me death!"

The speech helped persuade Virginia's leaders to prepare for armed resistance against British rule, moving the colonies one step closer to the American Revolution.

The church itself dates back to 1741 and remains an active Episcopal church today. Remarkably, much of what you see is very similar to what visitors would have seen nearly 300 years ago. During the summer months, reenactments of Patrick Henry's famous speech are often performed here, allowing visitors to experience a pivotal moment in American history.

As you complete your turn, imagine the tension that filled this hilltop church as the colonies stood on the brink of revolution. Few places in America can claim to have witnessed words that changed the course of a nation.

Church Hill Overlook: Richmond from Above
Take a moment to enjoy one of the best views in Richmond.

From here, you can see the downtown skyline, the James River, and the landscape that helped shape the city's history. It's easy to understand why this location was so important to early settlers, merchants, and industry.

This is also one of Richmond's favorite photo spots, so feel free to snap a quick picture before continuing.

When you're ready, turn back and prepare to turn left as we continue the tour. Follow the route on your map, and we'll be on our way to our next stop.
