The Ritz-Carlton
Welcome to the first place on our tour! The Ritz-Carlton Hotel! Known for its luxurious accommodations and impeccable service, it is a symbol of opulence and sophistication. In the film, Julia Roberts plays Anna Scott, a famous American actress who falls in love with a humble London bookseller, William Thacker, portrayed by Hugh Grant.
After their initial meeting, Anna calls William and invites him to her hotel, The Ritz! This is when William is arriving at the hotel, expecting an intimate one on one date with Anna, but as he makes her way to the room number he was given, another man is headed in the same direction. It is then discovered that Anna is in the middle of a press conference with many different magazine reporters to discuss her new movie. William quickly pretends he is a reporter from “Horse & Hound” but is able to spend some time with Anna. The Ritz is also the location of when Anna finally invites William up to her room after their first official date, but when getting there her boyfriend, played by Alec Baldwin is there. Confused and upset, William has to pretend he is room service creating an unfortunate situation between the two.
The Ritz-Carlton is not only just a magnificent filming location, with its beautiful grandeur, but it also underscores the juxtaposition of different worlds colliding. Anna Scott, a rich and famous celebrity, and William Thacker, a bookstore owner who can barely make ends meet. These different scenes, all taking place at one of the most well-known high end hotels, highlight the contrast between William’s ordinary life in Notting Hill and Anna’s glamorous, high-profile existence.

Real-Life Paparazzi
Do you remember the scene where William and Anna are trying to escape paparazzi right in front of the Ritz? Funny enough the paparazzi that was bothering them in the movie, were real life photographers! The production decided it would be a great idea to use actual paparazzi who frequently waited there for celebrities anyways.
