Farewell, Dubrovnik – Let the Journey Begin!
Hope you had an amazing time exploring Dubrovnik, the legendary Pearl of the Adriatic! Before we hit the open road, take one last look in the rearview mirror at this breathtaking city—where medieval charm meets cinematic fame.

As a UNESCO World Heritage site, Dubrovnik is a masterpiece of stone walls, baroque buildings, and sun-drenched marble streets. Maybe you walked the Stradun, visited the Rector’s Palace, or climbed the iconic city walls for those sweeping views of the Adriatic. Or perhaps you wandered off the beaten path and found a cozy café tucked away in a quiet courtyard.

Ever wonder where the name Dubrovnik comes from? It originates from the Slavic word “dubrava,” meaning oak grove. Long before the city rose to fame, the surrounding hills were covered in dense oak forests. It’s a name that connects this shining stone city to its natural roots.

And if you felt a little déjà vu along the way, it’s no wonder—Dubrovnik played the role of King’s Landing in Game of Thrones, offering the perfect mix of drama, history, and beauty.

Now it’s time to shift gears. Ahead lies a road filled with seaside villages, jaw-dropping landscapes, and cultural treasures. So buckle up, cue your favorite road trip playlist, and let’s begin this unforgettable coastal adventure to Split!

Crossing the Dubrovnik Bridge – A View to Remember
As you leave Dubrovnik behind, you'll cross the elegant Franjo Tuđman Bridge, a modern cable-stayed structure that spans the Rijeka Dubrovačka. Named after Croatia’s first president, this bridge isn’t just a crucial transport link—it’s a powerful symbol of the country’s post-war independence and modern identity.

Completed in 2002 after years of planning and delays due to the Croatian War of Independence, the bridge stretches 518 meters (1,699 feet) in length and towers 141 meters (463 feet) above the water at its highest point. It was engineered to withstand strong Adriatic winds and earthquakes—an impressive feat of modern construction in a challenging environment.

As you cross, look to your left for an incredible view of Gruž Port and the Lapad Peninsula. On a clear day, you might spot cruise ships docked or arriving, and if the sun’s just right, the water below sparkles like a mirror.

Fun Fact: While it looks sleek and contemporary, the bridge's location has historical roots—Roman roads once connected these same cliffs and shores long before asphalt and suspension cables.

It’s more than just a way out of Dubrovnik—it’s your gateway to the coastal wonders that lie ahead.
