Pest, where we are now, is flat and has developed into the commercial and administrative heart of Budapest. It was also a separate town before the unification, and has a vibrant cultural and social scene. Pest is flatter and more densely built-up, housing most of the city's commercial activities and government buildings. The western side of the Danube River, Buda, is characterized by its hills and historical landmarks, such as Buda Castle. It was historically a separate town and has always been seen as the more upscale and residential part of the city. Buda is known for its rolling hills and greener, more residential areas. Welcome to Dublin! The history of Dublin, stretches back over a thousand years. Dublin was founded by the Vikings in the 9th century. They established a settlement called Dyflin and used it as a base for trade and exploration. The Vikings built Dublin Castle and established a network of trade routes that extended across Europe. In 1169, the Normans invaded Ireland and captured Dublin. They constructed the first stone walls around the city and introduced feudalism. Dublin became an important center of commerce and administration, and many of its significant landmarks, including Christ Church Cathedral and St. Patrick's Cathedral, were built during this period. In the 16th century, King Henry VIII declared himself the head of the Church of England, and Protestantism was enforced in Ireland. Dublin became the seat of English power in Ireland, and the city grew in importance. However, religious tensions between Catholics and Protestants persisted throughout this era.
