Welcome to this UCPlaces Where to Live Tour of Brampton, Ontario. My name is Shelly and I’ll be the one showing you around today. Brampton is a suburban city, located in the Greater Toronto area. Its population is over half a million, making it the 9th largest municipality in Canada. Brampton wasn’t always like this though. In the 1950s Brampton’s population was only about 10,000. Call that a jump! Did you know Brampton was once nicknamed “The Flower Town of Canada” due its booming flower growing industry? For a while, Dale’s Estate Nursery was the town's largest employer and was the largest flower business in North America. Offering more than 6,000 acres of parkland, Brampton provides access to a wide variety of outdoor activities. People from around the world have come together to live, work, play and pray in this City. Brampton residents represent more than 170 different cultures and speak more than 70 languages. To start this tour meet me right by Heart Lake Conservation Park.
