Gibt es hier Geschichtsbegeisterte? Gut, dann ist es Zeit für eine kleine Lektion. Die Geschichte des Broadways reicht bis ins frühe 19. Jahrhundert zurück, als entlang der Straße erste Theater entstanden. Das erste bedeutende Theater am Broadway war das Park Theatre, das 1798 erbaut wurde.

Im späten 19. und frühen 20. Jahrhundert festigte die Entwicklung des Theaterviertels den Ruf des Broadways als führenden Standort für Theaterproduktionen. Der Bau ikonischer Theater wie das New Amsterdam Theatre im Jahr 1903 und das Palace Theatre im Jahr 1913 trug zu seinem Ruhm bei.

Die Mitte des 20. Jahrhunderts wird oft als das Goldene Zeitalter des Broadways bezeichnet, mit klassischen Produktionen wie „Oklahoma!“ (1943), „West Side Story“ (1957) und „My Fair Lady“ (1956), die diese Epoche prägten.
